"I discovered Heidi's website when searching for a professional editor to edit my novel. Wow, did I hit the Powerball! Her efforts went way beyond superior copyediting. She made some major league saves. Heidi is the best—brainy, insightful, uplifting, and amazingly patient. Working with her was nothing short of brilliant."
Greta Medlin, award-winning journalist and author of The Tender Void
"As an editor and guide, you know it is about your client. I was always amazed at how you kept the attention on me and my writing, and always gave it the time it--and I--needed, regardless of what else was on your plate."
Tony Prewit, author of Journey in the Mind's Eye of a Poet Series
"Self-publishing my first book was much quicker and easier with Heidi as book guide and consultant. I would hire her again and recommend her to anyone who wants the process to go smoothly."
John Gonze, author of Streets of Santa Fe

EDITING
In my opinion, editing is all about relationship. When you place your manuscript in an editor's hands, it should be that individual's top priority to bring out your message in your voice, whether by adding dialogue or correcting punctuation. No two styles are alike, and no style should be sacrificed for "correctness."
As a longtime writer, editor, and "book shepherd," or self-publishing consultant, I have been told that I channel the voices of my authors so their words and messages come through as they are meant to be heard. My work combines the application of intelligence, experience, intuition, and creativity. I am as comfortable with business communications as I am with fantasy and political thrillers, and specialize in the metaphysical. I refer to the Chicago Manual of Style as my editing guide and charge by the hour for ease and clarity. Because manuscripts inherently vary in terms of how much editing they require, it is only after reading at least a portion of your work that an estimate can be created for your project. Level 1 (Proofreading) $35 Corrects for grammar, punctuation, typos, spelling, etc. Level 2 (Basic Editing) $50 Sometimes called mechanical, or line, editing, Level 2 edits include editing for clarity, structure, and flow, as well as all proofreading elements. Level 3 (Substantive Editing) $65 Includes all elements of proofreading and Level 2 editing, plus "substantive" edits, such as rewriting dialogue and working with you on revisions relative to content. SPECIAL OFFER: Purchase 3 Hours of Evaluative Editing $175 (includes 15-min follow-up phone or Sykpe call) Let's say you simply don't feel ready to take the plunge into a full MS edit, but really want a professional opinion on what it will take to do the editing. I offer 3 hours of evaluation, complete with comments and sample edits, to help you make up your mind about how to proceed. This option is especially helpful for those writers who have never worked with a professional editor before. |
INTERIOR & COVER DESIGN/PUBLISHING
CUSTOMIZED INTERIOR BOOK DESIGN $6 - 9 per page
Customized book design means you get to choose the look you want! Your manuscript text is laid out and formatted (for leading, kerning, font type and size). Photographs, artwork, graphs, charts, and other graphic images are placed. This includes working with the images before placement in publishing software (ID) to ensure they are print-ready in terms of size, clarity, and resolution. The more complex the layout and design elements, the higher the price per page. Interior designed files are then made into print-ready files according to your chosen printer's technical specifications. CUSTOMIZED COVER DESIGN $65 hourly Nobody wants a template or clip art for a book cover. Together you and I determine the design and formatting of your cover art. I am happy to outsource or produce artwork, and place your author photo, text, and all other elements to create the perfect cover for you. You approve all print-ready files, produced according to your chosen printer's technical specifications, which are then ready to be uploaded accordingly. SELF-PUBLISHING CONSULTATION $75 hourly As a self-publishing, or POD, consultant, you may need guidance for ISBN procurement, copyright registration, ebook production, and liasoning with your chosen printer to ensure adherence to technical specifications. Together we will navigate the POD (Print-on-Demand) world of choosing a book size, setting up your Amazon (KDP) account or deciding on another printer that fulfills your individual needs. |
OBITUARY WRITING SERVICES: LIVING LEGACIES
Help When You Need It the Most
Obituaries/Eulogies: Personal. Powerful. Profound.
Not everyone feels up to the task of writing an obituary. Searching for the right words to say the right way, especially during a time of loss and bereavement. That's why they come to me, someone who not only understands how it feels to experience such a loss, but who writes with the clarity, compassion, and respect that you and your loved one deserve.
People are complex! Did your brother/mother/son/daughter/father/friend/aunt/uncle love lemon meringue pie? Kayaking on the river? Did she laugh at her own jokes? Did he raise prize chickens? Obit writing is about chronicling and encapsulating a life story. About cobbling together the highlights and essence of a unique life well lived, regardless of conditions, circumstances, or biographical factors. With this in mind, I will gently help you craft the obituary and eulogy you need with dignity, grace, and polish.
FEES start at $350
